Michael is a GIS specialist with a focus on humanitarian assistance and development data. Based remotely in the Washington DC area, he currently supports the SDG’s Today program as a GIS Developer and Analyst where he utilizes geospatial data to advance communication of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals through the lens of real-time and geospatial data. Mike began his career with SDSN as a GIS Analyst, supporting the launch of SDG’s Today in 2020 and the inception of the My School Today project, developing methodologies to visualize travel time to schools for students across Africa.

In addition to supporting SDG’s Today, Michael has previously worked in the international development space leveraging GIS and data analytics in support of organizations such as The World Bank and the U.S. Agency for International Development. He holds a Master’s of International Affairs from UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy & Strategy as well as a BA in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs from the California Maritime Academy.

Michael’s professional passions include supporting local development organizations, activists, and youth, leveraging satellite/remote-sensing data for sustainable development, and creating engaging maps. Mike enjoys cooking, playing table-top board games, and hiking with his dog, Ralphie, in his free time.
