From Pledges to Action: A Roadmap to End Deforestation in the Amazon
Organizers: The Science Panel for the Amazon & WWF
The Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA) and WWF will convene “From Pledges to Action: A Roadmap to End Deforestation in the Amazon” as an official side event of the 21st United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF21), bringing together science, policy, and civil society to accelerate progress toward zero deforestation. The session will present new evidence from the Amazon Footprint Report on deforestation drivers and value chains, alongside a Science–Policy Interface discussion led by SPA on how scientific knowledge can more effectively inform decision-making. A high-level dialogue will engage governments, civil society, and multilateral actors on translating commitments into implementation, complemented by a civil society call to action that underscores the urgency of coordinated, rights-based approaches. Together, these elements aim to help close the gap between global pledges and concrete action in one of the world’s most critical forest ecosystems.
