Governance Designing Institutes for Good Governance
Improving governance and fostering strong institutional design is not only critical for achieving SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), but also for governments worldwide to build an equitable, resilient, and sustainable future for all. In the Malaysian context, improving institutional design and enhancing access to information is particularly relevant, as the 2018 elections led to significant polarization and political instability, threatening Malaysia’s progress towards sustainable development.
The SDSN’s research and policy work on governance, lead by the Kuala Lumpur Office team, focuses on Malaysia's electoral, party, and parliamentary politics. It does so by producing research and advocating for reforms on key governance topics, including access to information, constituency delimitation, the electoral system, parliamentary committees, shadow cabinets, political parties, political finance, the constituency development fund (CDF), and the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).
