Governance & Peace Reforming Institutions & Advancing Peace

Through local, regional, and global efforts, the SDSN promotes a comprehensive vision of SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. We recognize peace, justice, and institutional strength as critical pillars of a just and sustainable future.

The SDSN’s work on governance, led by the Kuala Lumpur Office, focuses on institutional reform in Malaysia by conducting research and advocating for changes in key areas, such as access to information, constituency delimitation, the electoral system, parliamentary committees, shadow cabinets, political parties, political finance, the constituency development fund (CDF), and the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).

In parallel, in partnership with the UN Alliance of Civilizations and Religions for Peace, the SDSN launched a global initiative in 2025, “A Call for Peace, the End of Wars and Respect for International Law,” urging governments and international institutions to uphold the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This initiative reaffirms the SDSN’s belief that peace is not only a moral imperative but a necessary foundation for sustainable development.
