Key Insights: SDSN Thailand University Sustainability Study Tour 2025 at Kanazawa Institute of Technology

The UN Sustainable Development Solution Network’s Thailand Network (SDSN Thailand) is pleased to share the key insights report from the University Sustainability Study Tour 2025, hosted in collaboration with SDSN Japan at the Kanazawa Institute of Technology (KIT) in December 2025.

Under the theme "Advancing University’s SDG Localization through Transformative Leadership and Strategic Partnerships," executive leaders from 11 Thai institutions joined us to explore how higher education can lead in global sustainability.

Four core insights emerged from the study as critical for the future of education-based sustainable development:

  1. Sustainability Requires an Institutional Ecosystem: Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires the integration of policy, governance, teaching, operations, and organizational culture into a coherent system.
  2. Prioritizing Real-world Problem-Based Learning: Learning rooted in community and societal contexts strengthens systems thinking, practical skills, and social responsibility among students.
  3. Collaboration as a Critical Enabler of Impact: Partnerships with industry, communities, and networks expand learning opportunities and amplify sustainability outcomes.
  4. Focus on Impact over Rankings: Universities should prioritize tangible outcomes for learners and society while strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity in response to future change.

SDSN Thailand continues to facilitate these leadership exchanges to support Thai higher education institutions in their ongoing efforts toward global sustainability.
