Rethinking Money and Finance for Sustainable Development: SDSN France Launches New Educational Video Series

How can economics address the challenges of sustainable development? What role do money and international finance play in building equitable economies? These are the critical questions at the heart of a new educational film mini-series now available in the SDG Academy Library, featuring experts from the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s France network (SDSN France).

KEDGE Business School, co-host of SDSN France, and a long-standing partner in sustainable development education, has produced four videos exploring the intersection of economics, international finance, and the SDGs. Developed by Professor Thomas Lagoarde-Ségot in collaboration with leading French economists (Edwin Le Héron, Yamina Tadjeddine, Isabelle Chambost, and Jean-François Ponsot), these online materials examine fundamental concepts often overlooked in mainstream economic thinking.

What Makes this Series Distinctive?

The series challenges conventional economic theory and explores practical alternatives. Key themes include the role of money in the financial system, the structural inequalities embedded in the international monetary order, and the urgent need for new monetary and financial instruments to address the ecological crisis. Rather than treating economics as a neutral science, the series acknowledges that economic models shape behaviour and policy, making the transition to sustainable development a question not just of theory, but of institutional design.

Accessible Learning for a Global Audience

Co-produced with the Intervalles Association and now in the public domain, the series is available through the SDG Academy Library as part of a new partnership with KEDGE. The content is designed for educators, policymakers, students, and anyone seeking to understand the economic dimensions of sustainable development. The videos are in French with English subtitles.

The SDG Academy, the education arm of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, brings together curated content, innovative teaching approaches, and a global learning community dedicated to preparing current and future leaders to meet the challenges of sustainable development.
