SDSN Bolivia Hosts the First Sustainable Tourism Solutions Contest
On November 18, SDSN Bolivia held an event with the finalists of the Sustainable Tourism Solutions Contest, in which finalists presented their solutions to a qualifying jury.
5 finalists presented their solutions to a qualifying jury to obtain the First, Second and Third Place in the Sustainable Tourism Solutions Contest in Bolivia.
"The Contest aims to support economic incentives and technical assistance initiatives that promote sustainable tourism in Bolivia, and connect the finalists with different institutions that are interested in financing or investing in the proposals submitted," said Lykke Andersen, Executive Director of SDSN Bolivia.
The contest received 21 solutions at the national level, of which 5 finalists were chosen to advance to the final round. On Friday, November 18, the qualifying jury, composed of:
- Susana Sottoli, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Bolivia;
- Oscar Molina, Pro Rector of UPB;
- Janette Simbron, Marketing Director for CANOTUR;
- Anabel Ariñez, Manager of Social and Cultural Impact Projects of the Solydes Foundation;
- And Javier Benayas of SDSN España
Three winners of the Contest were announced.
First Place: The Region, an initiative of mass dissemination of ecotourism and community tourism projects to contribute and support the communities of Bolivia.
The two finalist solutions were:
“El Gato” Atelier, presented a Children's Tourist Guide "Merlina y Mú": The first children's tourist guide for families. The first edition is based on tourism within the city of La Paz and plans to expand throughout the country.
Pajareando Cotapata, Nature Tourism, focused on bird watching and resource sustainability in Cotapata.
After the awards, Hierro Brothers was in charge of organizing the business cocktail to promote exchange between institutions and finalists. The event was closed by Radio Cutipa, who delighted attendees with their fusion music.
