SDSN Greece Launches Greek Editions of Key Sustainability Guides for Higher Education
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s Greece network (SDSN Greece) is pleased to announce the publication of two essential guides for advancing sustainability in higher education, now both available in Greek.
The newly translated editions, Net Zero on Campus: A Guide for Universities and Colleges to Accelerate Climate Action and Co-Creating Sustainable Futures: A Guide for Designing and Facilitating Multi-Stakeholder Governance Transition Processes and Spaces, bring critical resources to Greek-speaking institutions committed to climate action and sustainable development.
The guides were published by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Press and are now part of the permanent collections at the National Library of Greece and the University of Athens Library. SDSN Greece Co-Chair Professor Andreas Papandreou and Co-Manager Dr. Antonios Alevizos provided scientific supervision for both Greek editions.
Launch Event Highlights
On October 6, 2025, during the European Sustainable Development Week, the University of Athens hosted a special presentation event to mark the release of the guides. More than 150 participants gathered in person to explore the implications of these resources for Greek higher education institutions.
The event featured remarks from distinguished speakers, including Athens Mayor Prof. Harris Doukas; University of Athens Rector Prof. Gerasimos Siasos; and Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Athens Prof. Georgios Dotsis. Each speaker addressed the vital importance of these guides in advancing sustainability and climate action within the academic community.
A panel discussion followed, featuring Professor Papandreou, Dr. Alevizos, and other academic experts to examine the evolving role of higher education institutions in promoting sustainability initiatives and meaningful climate action. The event concluded with a Hackathon inspired by the guides' content, where students and young professionals collaborated to develop innovative solutions to sustainability challenges facing universities and communities.
