SDSN Grows to 50 Networks with the Addition of SDSN Bulgaria and SDSN All Ireland
SDSN’s Networks program launched its first network in 2013 and has seen continued growth ever since, making 2022 a notable year where it now boast 50 networks across 6 continents. With approval from the Networks Strategy Council this month, SDSN welcomed two new networks, two changes in network hosts, and 52 new member institutions.
University College Cork and Queen’s University Belfast are together establishing an “All-Island” SDSN Ireland - an innovative approach bridging both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. SDSN Ireland will be a North-South cooperative network focused on developing context-specific solutions and mobilizing local action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Engaging universities, research centers, local authorities, NGOs, civil society organizations and policymakers, the Network plans to bring the latest research to bear on producing solutions for the SDGs and will seek to empower individuals and organizations within Ireland to achieve impact through education and engagement.
Additionally, the University of National and World Economy in Sofia (UNWE), one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Bulgaria and Southeast Europe, is setting up a National SDSN for Bulgaria. SDSN Bulgaria aims to establish and develop the leading SDG platform in Bulgaria for universities, research institutes, companies, government, and local municipality bodies, as well as organizations of civil society, enabling all members and partners to act for the sustainable future and to have an impact on society at large. The network's mission is to encourage the implementation and achievement of the SDGs at a national and local level.
Lastly, two established networks have been approved for a change to their governance after years of activities. SDSN Sahel will be hosted by a new institution: Alioune Dip University of Bambey (UADB). UADB has already been an active network member over the past 5 years and the institutional leadership has demonstrated strong engagement on the SDGs. SDSN Italy is adding Luiss Business School, the business school of Luiss University (Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali), as a co-host institution. The new co-host will support SDSN Italy in facilitating the realization of its mission, mobilizing the Italian scientific and technological expertise, and strengthening its capacity to promote practical solutions for sustainable development.
The SDSN Global Network continues to expand and evolve actively. If you are interested in joining as a member, you are invited to review membership requirements and apply. If you are interested in hosting a network, please get in touch.
