SDSN Italia Launched!
SDSN Italia has been launched with the aim of contextualizing the 2030 Agenda into the local Italian reality, mobilizing Italian academics and researchers, and connecting them to civil society and business leaders.
SDSN Italia focuses on three main areas:
- Contributing to the implementation of SDGs through scientific research and innovation;
- Promoting knowledge and awareness about SDGs throughout Italian society via dissemination, educational and training initiatives;
- Identifying, vetting and launching concrete solution initiatives for sustainable development.
SDSN Italia operates under the auspices of SDSN-Med and is hosted by Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei , a leading research center that since 1990 has conducted analysis on sustainable development and global governance issues. The SDSN Italia will be hosted in partnership with the University of Siena.
The establishment of the SDSN hub for Italy was announced by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of SDSN, during a conference on “Research and Innovation for SDGs: towards an inclusive green growth ” on March 14 th 2016 in Milan. The event gathered a comprehensive panel of business leaders, academics, and representatives from civil society who are already engaged in the dissemination of the 2030 Agenda. The conference was a productive first step for defining the action plan that SDSN Italia will pursue for diffusing knowledge and identifying solutions.
The launch was preceded by an executive lunch with high level academics and business representatives, selected for their relevance and proven sensitivity to sustainability issues. Professor Sachs had the chance to share with them some insightful thoughts about the SDGs and discuss the role of the private sector in pursuing the 2030 Agenda.
