SDSN Italy Joins the 2025 Festival of Sustainable Development
In May 2025, SDSN Italy participated in the 2025 edition of the Festival of Sustainable Development, hosted by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS). The event brought together over 320 organizations committed to advancing the 2030 Agenda. Spanning 17 days — symbolically reflecting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — the Festival mobilized universities, institutions, and civil society across Italy through hundreds of initiatives dedicated to sustainability.
As part of this national initiative, SDSN Italy supported a series of events organized by its host institutions, Politecnico di Torino and University of Brescia.
Circular Design
On May 16, the Student Sustainability Hub at the Politecnico di Torino hosted the event Circular Design. Held at the Lingotto Campus, the event was organized by the university’s Green Team. and supported by the Youth Climate Action Fund of the City of Turin. It sought to promote collaboration among student associations and teams, exploring sustainable and circular practices in the textile sector.
The program included a “Swap Party,” during which participants exchanged clothing, books, plants, and study materials; a live broadcast by Radio OndeQuadre; and creative workshops and thematic stands. Throughout the activities, participants collected stamps to earn a free drink.
The day concluded with a screening of the documentary Stracci, which highlights the environmental impact of the fashion industry, presented by directors Tommaso Santi and Silvia Gambi. The event provided an informal space for discussion and networking on sustainable design.
Mountains and Climate Change: Applied Research and Local Collaboration
On May 23, the University of Brescia, in collaboration with the Universities of Bergamo and Verona, held a seminar, Mountains and Climate Change: Applied Research and Local Collaboration. The seminar was part of an advanced training course on the enhancement of mountain cultural and environmental heritage. The event brought together academics and local stakeholders to explore the impacts of climate change on alpine ecosystems and communities. It featured scientific presentations by researchers from the University of Brescia, covering topics such as glacier retreat, extreme weather events, mountain water vulnerability, and environmental protection in the Camonica valley.
EnergyCare: Synergies for Sustainable Healthcare
On May 29, the University of Brescia hosted the seminar EnergyCare: Synergies for Sustainable Healthcare, as part of the EnergyCare research project. The event focused on reducing the environmental impact of healthcare, particularly in orthopedics.
It gathered over 40 participants and featured interdisciplinary contributions bridging engineering, medicine, and sustainability. International experts introduced innovative approaches such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), carbon footprint tracking, and sustainable surgical practices. The seminar also highlighted the work of the Territorial Group for Sustainability (GTS), which unites 17 regional entities in a shared commitment to sustainable healthcare.
