Korea will set up a local unit of the U.N. Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), a U.N.- driven global network on sustainable development, its preparation committee in Seoul said Friday.
The committee, which was launched Thursday, said that SDSN Korea will be established on Oct. 14 in the nation’s capital.
It added that the unit, to be abbreviated as KSDSN, will focus on finding ways to maintain a balance among developing the economy, environment, and society.
To that end, non-governmental experts from private enterprises, universities, and civic groups will collaborate to achieve KSDSN’s goal, according to Young Soo-gil, one of the four co-chiefs of the committee.
“The government and politicians are falling short of coping with increasing challenges facing national development,” he said during a conference to announce the establishment of KSDSN at The Westin Chosun Hotel, downtown Seoul. “A new way to cope with the problems is required. I believe the KSDSN will serve its purpose faithfully with creative solutions.”
