SDSN Portugal Hosts Collaborative Workshop at the Open University
On November 10, 2025, the Open University of Portugal, in partnership with SDSN Portugal and within the OpenEU Alliance, organized a multistakeholder workshop.
The workshop aimed to identify the main challenges Portugal faces in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — in particular Goals 4, 9, 13, 16, and 17 — and to explore how higher education institutions can collaborate with governments, the private sector, and civil society to create solutions to address these challenges.
A total of 46 participants from various stakeholder groups participated in the workshop, which resulted in a list of priority initiatives to be presented in a final report calling for collaborative action. Participants also identified a list of challenges for each of the SDGs targeted by the project and developed a visual presentation of the prioritized action proposals.
The working groups generated several action proposals focusing on the need for:
- More collaborative approaches to multistakeholder partnerships
- Wider education on sustainability with greater equity
- Literacy programmes
- Experimentation laboratories for digital innovation to support better policymaking in line with sustainable development.
The workshop was moderated by SDSN Portugal Manager Maria João Rauch and included a presentation by Sandra Caeiro, Vice-Rector at the Open University of Portugal. Eight moderators supported the facilitation of the working groups.
