SDSN Welcomes Its 60th Network: SDSN Uzbekistan
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) is pleased to announce the establishment of its 60th National Network, SDSN Uzbekistan, marking an exciting milestone in the continued growth of the SDSN Network.
SDSN Uzbekistan is co-hosted by the Institute of Macroeconomic and Regional Studies (IMRS) under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), both based in Tashkent. The network is co-chaired by Abidkhadjaev Umid Kutpitdinovich, Director of the IMRS, and Sodiq Safoyev, Rector of the UWED.
This marks the second national network in Central Asia, the first being SDSN Kazakhstan. As the region’s two largest economies and most populous countries, they can together serve as key drivers of cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange, and SDG implementation across Central Asia.
This milestone also reflects the growing global commitment of universities, research institutions, government institutions, civil society organizations, and other partners to working together on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Through locally driven solutions, long-term development pathways, knowledge exchange, and cross-sector collaboration, SDSN Uzbekistan will help accelerate sustainable development not only within Uzbekistan but across the wider Central Asian region.
To date, Uzbekistan houses eight SDSN member institutions. All members are invited to engage with SDSN's programs — including the SDG Academy, SDSN Youth, and SDGs Today — and to participate in SustainChain, the SDSN's members-only sustainable development community platform.
On July 11, 2026, the IMRS hosted a meeting with Professor Jeffrey Sachs, President of the SDSN, convening member institutions and representatives from the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as other key stakeholders, to strengthen cooperation in sustainable development.
About the SDSN’s Networks
The SDSN now hosts 47 national networks and 13 regional networks. Each network is coordinated by one or more host institutions, and these select institutions house the Network’s secretariat, convene universities and institutions in the country or region, and promote the Network’s activities. Working closely with the global SDSN Secretariat, national and regional Network hosts are mandated to focus on the following objectives:
- Provide and mobilize support for the SDGs, including supporting governments in understanding and addressing the challenges of sustainable development;
- Promote practical solutions, initiatives, and long-term pathways for sustainable development; andPromote high-quality education and research collaboration for sustainable development.
The SDSN warmly welcomes SDSN Uzbekistan to the SDSN community and looks forward to working together to drive sustainable development across the region.
Institutions are invited to join the SDSN’s global network for sustainable development. Membership is open to knowledge-generating institutions, including universities, research institutes, civil society organizations, science-oriented foundations, and other institutions that have deep expertise in one or more areas related to sustainable development and who commit a substantial amount of their own technical and research work towards finding and/or implementing solutions for sustainable development.
