Science Day 2026: The Science-Policy Imperative in the Final Stretch to 2030 and Beyond

July 9, 2026, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM EDT | Online & Conference Room 3, UNHQ, New York | Register

Organizers: SDSN, International Science Council (ISC), the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA)

Building on the 2023–2025 editions, Science Day 2026 will convene members of the scientific community, policymakers, and other stakeholders at a critical moment for multilateral cooperation. As the 2030 Agenda enters its final phase of implementation, the event will examine how scientific knowledge is being integrated into multilateral decision-making processes. Discussions will explore where science-policy collaboration is helping accelerate SDG implementation, where gaps remain, and what is needed to strengthen the credibility and effectiveness of science-informed policymaking under current global conditions.

You must be registered for HLPF 2026 to attend this event.

Accelerating Energy System Innovation and Transition for Equity and Resilience to Advance Global Sustainable Development

July 10, 2026, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM EDT | ECOSOC Chamber, UNHQ, New York | Register

Organizers: Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, Permanent Mission of China to the UN, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA), SEforALL, and the SDSN

Convening energy experts, policymakers, UN agencies, and private sector leaders, this side event takes place at a critical moment for global clean energy transformation. With SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) under review at HLPF 2026 and with progress still significantly off-track, discussions will examine how climate-adaptive power systems and grid interconnection can close persistent gaps in energy access, emissions reduction, and infrastructure resilience. Participants will explore where technological innovation and multi-stakeholder partnerships are accelerating the transition, where governance and financing bottlenecks remain, and what integrated policy pathways linking energy with water, industry, and urban development are needed to drive progress across the 2030 Agenda in its final years.

You must be registered for HLPF 2026 to attend this event.

Data for Development: Strengthening Partnerships and Financing for the SDGs

July 15, 2026, 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM EDT | Virtual | Register

Organizers: SDGs Today, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (UNECA), and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD)

This virtual side event will explore how strengthened partnerships and innovative financing mechanisms can help transform SDG data systems into sustainable public goods that drive development outcomes. It will focus on three interconnected dimensions: (i) data production and technical capacity, (ii) improved partnerships with academia and other stakeholders at the national level, and (iii) strengthening national discourse and public debate to help ensure evidence meaningfully informs planning and SDG implementation. By convening governments, universities, multilateral institutions, and development partners, the event will identify practical pathways fostering collaboration and building resilient data ecosystems that can respond to emerging development challenges and support SDG progress.
