The SDSN Launches an Open Call for Just Transition Initiatives
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), in collaboration with Siemens Energy, has launched a global search for initiatives demonstrating that a transition to a low-carbon economy can be both effective and equitable. The most compelling examples will be showcased in a large-scale dissemination campaign alongside the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in July 2026 to inspire action worldwide.
What Are We Seeking?
The SDSN is inviting SDSN members and partner institutions to submit outstanding initiatives advancing a just transition. The concept of "just transition" highlights the need for the shift to a low-carbon economy to be not only effective, but fair and inclusive — placing people at the center, protecting livelihoods, creating decent jobs, and supporting vulnerable communities.
What Are the Requirements and Who can apply?
To be considered, initiatives must meet the following requirements:
- Open to SDSN members and partner institutions. Solutions submitted by non-SDSN members must be endorsed by the relevant national or regional SDSN network.
- Open to any geographic area, country, or region.
- Must contribute to equitable decarbonization, be grounded in real-world implementation, and support meaningful action.
- Must include executed plans or inception/pilot phases; purely theoretical frameworks are not eligible.
- Open to any sector facing transition pressures, beyond energy.
- Must demonstrate measurable impact and have identifiable beneficiaries.
- Open to any actor or organization, provided there is collaboration with a university or knowledge institution.
