SDSN Germany, hosted by the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), and established in 2014, mobilizes its members in Germany and leverages their strengths to help realize the SDGs. Key focus areas include maintaining close contact with the knowledge institutions that are members of SDSN Germany and organizing events on topics related to sustainability regularly, such as climate governance, voluntary carbon markets, and socioeconomic participation related to sustainability transformation. SDSN Germany also contributes to the Europe Sustainable Development Report and engages with SDSD Europe at expert conferences.

Events and Publications Address Policy Options for Spillover Effects

Through the organization of events and publication of papers, SDSN Germany has increased awareness on Germany's and other high income countries' negative spillover effects, in particular on low and middle income countries. In collaboration with key actors from science, civil society and the public sector, this has led to influence in policy as evident in the German Sustainable Development Strategy where the negative spillover effects has been taken into account. SDSN Germany is now working on concrete policy options to tackle this issue.

Boost in Networking Opportunities Increases Member and Partner Engagement

In 2023, SDSN Germany significantly increased its member and partner engagement through co-hosting events, organizing regular informal coffee talks on specific topics to boost networking among members and partners and promoting exchange on spillover effects. Thereby, SDSN Germany could better connect the diverse sustainability work of its members to the implementation of the SDGs and be a voice for the member and partner institutions.
