Lancet Pathfinder Commission
The Pathfinder Commission aims to accelerate a just transition by providing practical, evidence-based pathways to net zero that also bring benefits to health. The Commission is supported by a coalition of partners, including the SDSN, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), C40 Cities, CDP, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research.
As part of the first phase of work, the Commission carried out a comprehensive review of existing literature on the health co-benefits of climate action and gathered case studies from around the world on implemented solutions with measured greenhouse gas emissions reductions and health benefits. The findings have been published in The Lancet and shared through an interactive climate and health evidence bank.
Building on global evidence of climate mitigation actions with strong health co-benefits, the SDSN contributed to the initiative’s second phase by enhancing monitoring, evaluation, and capacity for action. This included support for the development of a practical indicator framework aligned with the EU Mission for 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 that will enable cities to better track health-relevant climate outcome
