Beyond Basic Electricity Access: The Unrealized Promise of Solar Power for Economic Growth in Africa
Published on
Prioritizing power for income-generating activities is the driver that can lead to affordability and access for household power. In rural agricultural settings in particular, an ecosystem of service providers that expands solar energy and increases economic growth can be created, beginning with identifying clusters of potential electricity demands. With already attractive price points for direct use of solar, if decentralized renewables are nationally financed and existing social networks are built upon to increase utilization, energy can be used to increase productivity and income, and access to renewables can be rapidly expanded.
