Region: Africa

SDSN Kenya, co-hosted by the University of Nairobi and MOI University and established in 2022, mobilizes its members in Kenya and leverages their strengths to help realize the SDGs. Key focus areas include policy gap analysis by elaborating how SDG targets align with the national planning frameworks, SDG awareness through public lectures, and building pathways towards the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Kenya by mobilizing research, outreach, and collective action.

Workshop and Policy Platform Focus on Accelerating Sustainable Development

In collaboration with the Food, Environment, and Land Development (FELD) Catalyst program, SDSN Kenya organized a collaborative workshop and platform for practical solutions and policy engagement on September 7, 2023. Held during the 2023 Africa Climate Summit and Week at University of Nairobi, it brought together over 90 delegates and multi-level stakeholders from government, academia, and civil society. The diverse discussions were geared towards propelling sustainable development, climate action, and food security in Kenya and the continent.

Local Governments Support Workshops Training on SDG Localization

In collaboration with the Kenyan County (local) Governments, SDSN Kenya organized two major workshops on SDGs localization and awareness in November 2022 through the NOREB & SEKEB economic blocs. The workshops targeted key county government officers and members of the county assembly. A total of over 60 participants drawn from 15 counties were made aware of and trained on integrating the SDGs and the Paris Agreement into the County Integrated Development plans, budgets, and programs with strategies for efficient implementation.
