SDSN Switzerland, hosted by Centre for Development and Environment (CDE), University of Bern, and Biovision - Foundation for Ecological Development, was founded in April 2017 and officially launched in February 2018. The Network mobilizes its members in Switzerland and leverages their strengths to help realize the SDGs. Key focus areas include raising awareness and fighting illicit financial flows from developing countries; coordinating dialogues on the future of food in Switzerland; and launching an all-party group for the SDGs to offer scientific expertise to its members, focusing on sustainable economies, the transformation of the food system, and the governance of the country’s sustainable development.

High-level Representatives Attend Network's First Food System Summit

More than 300 participants attended the first national Food System Summit organized by SDSN Switzerland. The Federal Councillor, Guy Parmelin, and Bernard Lehmann of the United Nations’ High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) provided inputs for the Summit. Representatives from the entire value chain and from all major political parties took part in panel discussions.

Summit Committee Seeks to Align Swiss Food System with the 2030 Agenda

In a detailed guidelines document, the scientific committee of Food Future Switzerland, initiated by SDSN Switzerland, put forth a Pathway for Transforming the Swiss Food System to align with the 2030 Agenda. Within this framework, the committee suggested a set of specific actions. Rather than treating these actions in isolation, they were strategically interconnected and arranged in a well-organized chronological sequence.

Network Project Promotes Regenerative Economy for Socio-ecological and Economic Restoration

SDSN Switzerland launched a new project in partnership with the Institute for Economy and the Environment at the University of St. Gallen. The aim is to promote a regenerative economy, i.e. business models that contribute to the restoration of ecological, social, and economic resources. In this project, regenerative business models will be identified and tools will be developed to help companies move towards a future within planetary boundaries.
