SDSN USA, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University, the University of California, San Diego, and Howard University mobilizes its members in the United States of America and leverages their strengths to help realize the SDGs. Established in 2018, key focus areas and activities include decarbonization pathways via its involvement in the U.S. Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project, producing a Zero-Carbon Action Plan and collaborating with cities to develop decarbonization pathways; human rights; and SDG localization, including tracking SDG progress in the U.S. and linking science-based research with policymakers and community leaders.

Workshop Connects Politicians and Stakeholders on Local Decarbonization

SDSN USA and SDSN's Climate and Energy Program began working with the City of Cleveland’s Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Climate Justice on a workshop focused on bringing together city council members and high-level stakeholders for training, information sharing, and discussion of needs and barriers to decarbonizing the City of Cleveland. In April 2023, the City of Cleveland, SDSN USA, and the Cleveland Foundation held the city’s first Decarbonization Summit to discuss pathways for reducing the city’s carbon emission levels.

Youth-led Innovation Webinar Series Leads to White Paper at COP28

SDSN USA’s Mission 4.7 Community of Practice, focused on Education for Sustainable Development and led by SDSN USA members, held the US Summit on Transformative Education in February 2023, which had over 400 attendees and presenters. The working group carried out the "Fostering Youth-Led Innovation for the SDGs" webinar series, that was followed by a white paper released at COP28 in Dubai titled "Fostering Youth-Led Innovations to Accelerate Progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: A Guide for Policymakers."

Youth Host Workshop to Develop Position Statement on Climate

SDSN Youth USA held the Youth Knowledge XChange, an online workshop for youth from the US, Canada, Mexico, and Australia/NZ/Pacific to develop a position statement to be shared with their university leadership and wider community.
