SDSN Western Balkans mobilizes local knowledge to advance viable solutions to sustainable development challenges in the Western Balkans. The network, hosted by the Shared Society and Values Foundation and the Sarajevo Institute of Economics, includes the following countries and/or territories: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia. Established in 2022, key focus areas and activities include hosting events with stakeholders in the region to discuss the challenges the Western Balkans face to achieve sustainable development, as well as supporting sessions related to globalization, rising inequalities, global health governance, and climate change.

Network Co-organizes the Sarajevo Economic Forum

SDSN Western Balkans co-organized the Sarajevo Economic Forum and presented the regional edition of the 2022 Sustainable Development Report at the event. The forum featured 2 sessions dedicated to Sustainable Development: “Global challenges and Western Balkans: Sustainable Development, Resilience, Restart and Recreation” and “Mobilizing Green Finance to Restore and Accelerate the SDGs Progress."

The Network Supports SDG 17 at the Global Baku Forum

SDSN Western Balkans focused its work on SDG 17 with the following activities. Together with a number of member organizations and partner institutions, the Co-Chair and the Manager of SDSN WB attended the IX Global Baku Forum in Azerbaijan. The network supported a number of sessions relating to Globalization and Rising Inequalities, Global Health Governance, Climate Change, and the position of the Western Balkans in Europe today. The Co-Chair of the Network moderated these sessions with over 25 panelists.
